How & Where to Pick Up Your New TIE Card in Barcelona
Have you completed your fingerprints appointment to obtain your TIE card yet? If so, all that is left is to wait until the pick-up day arrives.
In Barcelona, it usually takes around 30–40 days for your card to be ready for collection. The delay happens because TIE cards are processed and issued in Madrid. The process involves receiving the information, creating the card, and then sending it back, which typically takes that amount of time.
If you did your fingerprint appointment at the police station located at Rambla Guipúzcoa, 74, you will need to pick up your TIE at the same location: Rambla Guipúzcoa, 74. It is not possible to change this location, your TIE will always be delivered there.
You may have heard that if you completed your fingerprint appointment at Rambla Guipúzcoa 74, you had to go to Calle Mallorca 213 to collect your TIE. However, this is no longer the case. The procedure has recently changed. Now, the TIE must be collected at the same location where the fingerprints were taken, which is Rambla Guipúzcoa 74.
In addition, an appointment is now required to collect the card. This appointment can be booked through the official Extranjería appointment website by selecting the option POLICIA- RECOGIDA DE TARJETA DE IDENTIDAD DEL EXTRANJERO (TIE)
Follow these steps to know if your TIE is ready
Documents you must bring
- Fingerprint receipt given to you on the day of your appointment.
- Original and valid passport.
- Previous TIE card (if you had one).
Once inside, they will verify your documentation and ask you to confirm your fingerprints again (right index finger and left index finger, flat scan).
Important Notes
- Only you can collect your TIE. No one else is allowed to pick it up on your behalf.
- Minors under the age of 6 do not need to go in person to the police station. In these cases, a parent or legal guardian can collect the TIE on their behalf. The adult must bring official documentation proving their relationship with the minor.
How to check if your TIE is ready
You can track the status of your TIE card by checking the batch number (lote) on the official website. Simply scan the QR code on your fingerprint receipt, which will direct you to the correct page.
- You’ll find your lote number printed on the fingerprint receipt (see example in the image).
- If the lote number shown on the website is the same or higher than the one on your receipt, it means your TIE is ready for collection.
