NIF

« Back to Glossary Index

The NIF (Número de Identificación Fiscal) is a tax identification number used to identify both individuals and companies before the Spanish Tax Agency (Hacienda). For Spanish citizens, it matches their DNI (national ID number). For foreigners, it usually matches their NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero). The key difference between NIF and NIE lies in the legal context: the NIE is a general identification number used across Spanish public administration, while the NIF is specifically used for tax and fiscal purposes.
