EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)

« Back to Glossary Index

The EHIC is a free card that allows citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland to access medically necessary public healthcare during a temporary stay in another EU country, under the same conditions as local residents. It is commonly used by students, workers, or travelers moving within the EU to prove access to healthcare in the host country. The card is issued by the national health authority in the country where you are insured. In most cases, it can be requested online, by phone, or in person, depending on the country.
