Canje, known in English as driving license exchange is the process of converting your foreign driving license into a Spanish one, as long as there is an agreement between Spain and your country. Instead of applying for a new license, you can swap your original for an equivalent Spanish license, making the process much easier. However, you must meet certain administrative requirements and always surrender your original license. You cannot exchange a foreign license if your country is not part of the EU, the EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), or the list of countries with an agreement.
